Foster Care Resources

Agency Resources
Woodmen Valley Chapel does not advocate for specific Child Placement Agencies (CPA). To find an agency that best suits your family’s needs and desires, we recommend you do due diligence.

A good course of action for choosing an agency:

  1. Talk with all members of the household …
Determine what type of foster home you are presently most equipped to provide; infants, elementary age, adolescents, physically or mentally challenged, male, female, etc.  Public agencies care for a wide range of children while private agencies are usually more focused on special needs or specific demographics of people.
  2. Talk to other foster parents …
Ask about their experiences with the different agencies. If you do not personally know any foster parents, click here to email us for names of families that have offered to share their experience.
  3. Research your options.
The following link is to the El Paso County’s Department of Human Services (DHS) Child Placement Agency list.  http://dhs.elpasoco.com/Pages/CPA-Adopt.aspx. This is a list of the preferred providers that DHS works with according to state guidelines. A search on-line or in the library will provide more options.
  4. Figure out how far you are willing to drive.
The further you are willing to take your foster children for appointments and visitation, the more agencies you will have to choose from. Appointments throughout the week might include various types of therapy and parental or sibling visitations.
  5. Understand your obligations to the agency you choose.
Usually, you have to stay with an agency for at least one year before you can transfer.

Loving Shepherd Ministries
Foster Care Adoption Overview

Wrap Around Foster Care
We desire to champion the cause of foster children, taking them from abuse and neglect to love and nurture by supporting the foster families in our church body. The Wrap-Around Foster Care ministry is partnering with a local organization, Fostering Hope, to train teams of 4-8 people to come alongside foster families within our own church family. These teams can provide support in areas such as: respite care, meals, transportation, yard work, babysitting, homework help, etc. This kind of support is crucial for foster families, and it is a great opportunity for your whole family. Working as a team allows individuals to serve in their area of giftedness. CLICK HERE to learn how you can become a powerful support to our foster families.

Fostering Hope works with families that have been foster parents for a year or more and are working with sibling groups.  The volunteer teams will be connected with this type of foster home within the WVC church body. However, if you are a foster family within WVC that needs support but do not meet these parameters, please fill out our FOSTER PARENT SUPPORT FORM below and we will do everything we can to meet your need.

Foster Parent in Need of Support
As the demand for foster families has increased, so have the demands ON the foster family. WVC recognizes that this creates an opportunity for burnout and would like to wrap around their foster families to preserve placements and provide loving and Godly support for the foster families and the children in foster care.

If you are a foster family in WVC and are in the need for support, please enter your information below.
