Stephen Ministry
Dear Christian Friend,
Thank you for your interest and desire to join one of the most important care ministries being shared and conducted in churches across America and the world—Stephen Ministry.
Woodmen Valley Chapel needs and is seeking men and women such as you who have a vital faith in Christ and a desire to serve in ministry to others. It is a ministry that begins with 50 hours of stimulating and useful training in Christian care skills. This training will be led by trained Stephen Leaders and will include a variety of topics such as listening, Christian assertiveness, maintaining boundaries in care giving and grief. The training is distinctively Christian and focuses on God as the one who cures as we care.
When the Stephen Ministry training is completed and church membership qualifications are in order, you will be commissioned and ready to begin your ministry. Working under supervision as a Stephen Minister, you will have an opportunity to meet weekly with a person experiencing such problems as these and more.
- Bereavement
- Terminal Illness
- Single Parenting
- Long-term Hospitalizations
- Job Loss
- Natural Disasters
You will be asked to commit at least two years for training, service and regular supervision which includes 50 hours of training, weekly Monday night meetings with a Care Receiver and required, twice monthly meetings of supervision and continuing education. Often Stephen Ministers enjoy the ministry so much they choose to serve beyond the two years.
Please complete the application form below completely. After receiving your application, we will contact you to set up a time for a personal interview.
Cost: $60/person. Covers all materials.
This is an exciting step in engaging in the mission of Christian ministry and the vision of Woodmen Valley Chapel. It is also an exciting step in your personal spiritual growth as you serve using the spiritual gifts God has given you.
