Team Serving

"When you understand who God is, you have not choice but to serve." --Jane Oholendt

The Woodmen Valley Chapel decision to launch a second campus by opening a simulcast community at Liberty High School was exactly the opportunity for which Ron and Jane had been waiting. From the first weekend in October 2002, they could be found on the weekly set-up teams, serving at the welcome desk, while ushering and greeting.

A twenty-nine year military career had taken Ron and Jane to multiple sites and varied assignments before their arrival at WVC in 2000. As a F16 pilot, Ron’s responsibilities included supervising thousands as Vice Commander of the 388 Fighter Wing. By his side, Jane supported other Air Force wives, while planning and carrying out multiple social functions.

From the days of their first assignments, they looked for situations to plug in and serve in local churches. Leadership in youth ministry and men’s Bible studies opportunities opened for Ron; choir leadership and Bible Study Fellowship for Jane. Passionately they tell of “waiting and listening for God to show them where to serve no matter where they were -- and he always did!” Along with a ministry place, “always came the equipping they needed to do the task.”

“Team serving” has been a mark of their marriage, careers, and ministry. That was evident when they accepted a call to lead Military Marriage Seminars with Family Life Ministry from 2003-08. For those of us who know them, watch them, work with them, and are ministered to by them -- we see the strength of their “partnership ministry.”

If you come to Woodmen Heights for the 11 am Worship Service, there is a good chance you will receive a warm and friendly Oholendt greeting while being ushered to your seat. Ask for directions to a warm and accepting adult study group, and you will be introduced to the 9 am Bible class where Ron’s rich teaching and Jane’s shepherding tendencies have contributed to building a solid community nearing 100. Serving is contagious within the class too, as a “Lend a Hand’ ministry was launched shortly after inception.

Gratitude for who God is and what he has done on their behalf is the motivator of their servant spirits. Ron and Jane -- Serving and Finishing Well!
