A Song of Tattered Pages

The best books reveal their value by their well-worn, tattered pages…
pages turned often and eagerly because they engage our heart and resonate with our journey.

Our life stories reveal tattered pages as well. These pages are filled with beauty, triumphs and laughter, but also frayed by brokenness, failures
and tears.

The book that relates best with our life’s story is a supernatural one:
the Word of God.

The degree to which we experience the Life-giving connection between
those Scriptures and our own story will be directly related to how tattered the pages are.

Do we merely keep a Bible around without actually digging into it? Or, do we read, study and wrestle with those pages of Truth to give them that well-worn, tattered indication of being valued? In addition, do we honestly engage with the tattered aspects of our own story? Or, instead, do we spend our energy denying the brokenness, pursuing diversions or simply anesthetizing ourselves with the painkillers of superficial pursuits?

The bottom line: do we let the tattered pages of Scripture mingle with the tattered pages of our story? If so, we quickly come face to face with the Centerpiece of Scripture, Jesus Christ, who is the Logos, the living Word. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:1,14)
The more we read the written Word, the more we get to know Christ, the living Word. And the more we relate with the living Word, the more we realize how “tattered” He became… for us and our tattered condition. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)

In Luke 2, we meet Simeon, an old man who was finally able to hold the infant Messiah. He sang a song of praise to God, a song which included these three elements: the Scriptures which he knew well, the Savior who is promised in those Scriptures and the Story of the men and women whom He came to save.

As a result, our hope is that God will enrich your engagement with Him and His Word…and as the pages of your own Scriptures become tattered, you’ll begin to relate with the grace and truth of our Savior, Jesus Christ the living Word, and thereby experience the redemption of your Story’s tattered pages.

Regardless of how tattered the pages of your life might be, we invite you to explore God’s story of redemption and the next steps in your journey...
