Worship Arts Technology Initiative
Open the gates of the temple for me. I will enter and give thanks to the Lord. Psalm 118:19
Weekend worship services at Woodmen Valley Chapel are vital gatherings for our church body to share our deepening amazement of God’s grace. Every Saturday and Sunday, the teaching, music, scriptures and prayers, shared between locations, serve as a catalyst for us to explore, express and experience God’s grace.
Just as the Psalmist asked for the gates of the temple to be opened, today’s worship technology allows us to “Open the Gates” and share God’s love with thousands of Christ-followers and seekers coming together each week. With eight services in a variety of venues, our worship arts technology plays an essential role in conveying the music and the Word, while glorifying God. It’s the goal of Woodmen’s sight and sound team to consistently deliver crystal clear audio and vibrant video quality, so that the medium never detracts from the message.
We now face a critical juncture in our journey as a church. Many key components in the audio, video, and lighting systems that we rely on each week to reach our congregation are out of date. We are currently “getting by” with speaker systems, cameras, and video mixers and lighting equipment that are 12 to 14 years old. The Lord has blessed Woodmen with steady growth since the Rockrimmon Worship Center opened 13 years ago, yet our worship technology has not kept pace. We have been good stewards of these resources and our sight and sound team has kept them running as long as possible...even longer in some cases! As these systems age, their dependability declines. In many cases, our equipment is so outdated that replacement parts are no longer made, and manufacturers will no longer support it. It is now more cost and time effective to replace, rather than continue to repair, these systems.
Imagine depending on a 13-year-old computer that crashes frequently or driving an unreliable car after the manufacturer stopped making replacement parts. You would soon decide that it is time to update your technology! This is the position in which Woodmen finds itself.
To better serve our church family and our community, and provide an inspiring and excellent worship experience both at Rockrimmon and Woodmen Heights, it is now time to upgrade and replace many components in our audio and video systems. In addition to decreasing down-time, the updated audio components will increase sound clarity, reducing audio “hot spots” and “dead spots.” The video components will improve the look of our images, and will be compatible with components produced in the coming years. We are already taking the first steps in this system update using previously budgeted church funds to purchase in-ear monitoring systems for our worship teams at both campuses and to install a new, digital sound console for the Rockrimmon Worship Center.
The immediate need to replace critical components that are 13+ years old with systems that will meet current specifications is $296,000. An additional $251,000 would enable us to replace and upgrade high priority equipment. This is not to purchase the latest hi-tech gadgets with fancy bells and whistles, but for dependable equipment that will keep us up-to-date and meet the congregation’s needs. These significant costs are above and beyond our available budget. However, we are convinced that the tools to be purchased are vital for Woodmen to continue to effectively reach thousands of Christ-followers and friends with the Gospel each week. Because of this, we are inviting you to share in this important stewardship initiative.
If Woodmen is your church home, will you prayerfully consider a gift, in addition to your regular tithe, to help fund this update of WVC’s worship technology?
God may call some of us to step out in faith and to give sacrificially, as we humbly trust Him to provide for this important work. If we are to stay relevant in a society that is increasingly reliant upon media and technology, we must not overlook this vital link in the way we deliver God’s message to a hungry and hurting culture.
