For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. (1 Corinthians 12:13)

I grew up Presbyterian, believing there was a God, Creator of all things. I was taught God gave me all I needed to be responsible and self-sufficient. My parents were loving Christians and taught me to do my best and do unto others…but it wasn’t until about ten years ago that I gradually came to know the Lord in a personal way. I know now that those times when I saw only one set of footprints in the sand, He was carrying me. Jesus is my Lord and Savior and I am at peace that all is well with my soul. I want to continue to grow in my understanding of the Lord and be marked as a follower of Jesus. This baptism symbolizes the Holy Spirit living in me and I pray that I will become more like Him every day of my journey.

After years of heavy drinking, I sobered up on May 28, 1986. With the help of AA, my mind cleared and I began to hear about a power greater than myself. A friend at work told me about his relationship with Jesus. Although I was raised Catholic, I never understood what Jesus had done for me. I gave my life to Him in October 1988. Jesus has changed my reason for doing things and I want to be baptized.

My life before Jesus was mostly about me. I wanted life to be easy and peaceful but instead there was a lot of turmoil. I was an adult when I first heard about a personal relationship with Jesus and knew that was what I had been searching for and what was missing in my life. Having Jesus in my life has given me focus, direction, and peace in the midst of stormy circumstances. I have a Savior that wants the best for me and will always stand with me through whatever life throws my way. So now, as a step of obedience, I wish to be baptized to proclaim to everyone that I am a follower of Christ.

I wish to be baptized as an outward expression of a decision I made nearly twenty years ago. I became a Christian at a young age and was brought up in a loving church environment. While I’ve known that all believers are called to be baptized, Pastor Matt’s recent sermon really resonated with me. The Holy Spirit has been residing in me all the while, but now is the time for me to make a public proclamation that Jesus is my Lord and Savior.

Well, I’ve known Jesus all my life, being brought up in a Christian home.  I believe Jesus has been in my life since I was young, guiding me and protecting me from the evils of this world.  Being baptized young (at birth, according to our beliefs) was something done for me by those who loved me and wanted me to be a part of heaven’s blessings.  Now it is my choice to acknowledge the greatness of our God and of our Savior.  To give the rest of my life to my God – to acknowledge the sacrifice that Jesus has made for me.
