Fall Colors Hike - Rampart Reservoir to Stanley Reservoir
Date: Saturday, September 27th
Difficulty: Moderate; (2 boots out of 4)
Length: Approximately 6.2 miles (out and back)
Time: Arrive time is 8:30am, hike starts at 9:00am sharp!
Description: The trail is well marked and ambles up and down through pine forests, countless aspen groves, and several spectacular open vistas looking toward Pikes Peak. The real payoff is near the end of the trail close to Stanley Reservoir where we pass through a large stand of very tall, old-growth aspen. These trees, when in full autumn color, are absolutely beautiful and awe-inspiring.
Directions from I-25:
Going south on I-25 past downtown, take Exit 141 onto Cimarron St. (US 24) heading west. Continue on U.S. Highway 24 west to Woodland Park. Take a right at the red-light at McDonalds onto Baldwin (after half a mile, Baldwin becomes Rampart Range Road). Go 2.9 miles and take a right where road splits onto Loy Creek Road. Go 1.5 miles and take a right back onto Rampart Range Road (dirt road). Go 3.9 miles to entrance on the left into Rampart Recreation Area (paved road). Note that there is a $5 entrance fee (per car). Go 3.3 miles to the parking lot across the lake dam. The trailhead is at the far end of the parking lot.
Look for your guides, Cindy, Pete, Carol, and Vickie in the parking area at the trailhead.
Please contact Cindy at 593-0059 or cindystroup@q.com for more information or to let her know you're coming!
