Vision

Vision statements often have the same impact as that of a old painting hanging on a wall in your home. It's something that someone once spent countless hours working on and crafting, yet has little or no significance to your day-to-day life. Rarely is it ever looked at or truly seen, much less appreciated and valued.

In the small group ministry we seek to change that! We value the vision statement of Woodmen Valley Chapel, and believe that it holds significant implications for what we do in small groups and how we do it.

Woodmen Valley Chapel's Vision Statement

To launch and strengthen a fleet of Christ-following communities
who are compassionately sailing through a turbulent culture
toward a deeper amazement of God's grace.

Implications of the WVC Vision Statement for Small Groups

"Launch"
- New small groups are started through our Small Group Connection which occurs each quarter.
- WVC small groups are formed primarily on life stage and secondarily via geographic location.
- WVC is developing small-group communities that extend beyond the traditional living room environment.

"Strengthen"
- Each small group signs a small group covenant that serves as a commitment to the individual small group.
- All small group leaders are required to fill out a leader's questionnaire, meet with the small group pastor, be a member of Woodmen Valley Chapel, and experience a Small Group Leader Training course prior to launching a new small group.
- Small group leaders are required to attend at least one Small Group Leader Symposium every six months. Symposiums are offered quarterly to continually equip leaders in small group methods/practices, and to nurture community among WVC small group leaders. It is a venue to discuss the joys, and work through the challenges, of leading a small group.

"Christ-following communities"
- WVC small groups are comprised primarily of individuals who have a personal faith in Jesus Christ and are thus indwelt by the Holy Spirit. In Christ, we are a family and should seek to honor each other as such. (Ephesians 2:19, 1 John 3:1)
- WVC small groups seek to practice the grace-centered love of Jesus to each other. (John 13:34-35)
- WVC small groups seek to practice authenticity by engaging in honest communication. We will speak truth into the lives of each other with love and compassion. (1 Peter 4:8)
- WVC small groups are also a safe environment to investigate, seek, and learn about God. People who are "kicking the tires" of Christianity are encouraged to get involved in an authentic biblical community.

"Compassionately sailing through a turbulent culture"
- WVC small groups use a curriculum that reflects the interests and needs of Christ followers living in our turbulent culture. (Romans 12:2)
- WVC small groups are encouraged to serve the church and/or community at least one time per quarter. (Ephesians 2:10)

"Deeper amazement of God's grace."
- A deeper understanding of God's grace will lead us to live out and express God's grace to each other within our small group, our church, and in the community in which we live. (1 Peter 4:10)
