Kindergarteners through second graders at WVC AWANA continue their spiritual training with Sparks. At this age, the truth of the Gospel begins to take root and the excitement of Christ and AWANA causes the children to share this joy with their friends.

We have some NEW info for you this year in Sparks!  AWANA has revised the Sparks curriculum for the first book in the Sparks , three book, series.  The Skipper handbook has been replaced with the HangGlider handbook.  The previous gate test has also been replaced with Flight 3:16.

So, if you are new to Sparks, your child will receive the Flight 3:16 intro booklet. Every new Sparkie, regardless of grade, receives the Flight 3:16 booklet.  Please work through this with your child (in order) and initial the sections your child completes at home.  Once Flight 3:16 is completed, you may purchase a vest and HangGlider handbook for your child.

If you are not new to Sparks, you will pick up where you left off last year.  In other words, if your child is still working on items in the Hiker handbook, they must complete that book before moving on to the Climber.  If you completed a book(s) last year, then start off on the new book.

In the new Hang Glider book, all sections are completed in order.  No skipping around, please.  However, in the Hiker (blue) and Climber (green) books, Red Sections must be completed in order.  Green Sections may be completed in any order.

Skipper, Hiker, and Climber. Sparky, the firefly mascot, is the guide for each book. By completing approximately 2 sections weekly, a child can complete a book in one year. If a child completes the handbook before the year is over, he or she may continue their memory work in additional workbooks.

At club, the Sparkies enjoy Green Meadow (singing and a story), Sparkle Time (handbook time), and amazing Games (on AWANA's unique game circle). If you want to help your child learn the Sparks Theme song, you can listen to this
MP3.

In the winter, Sparkies who have completed 10 sections, are 8 years or younger, and attend 2 out of 3 practices are elligible for
Sparks-a-rama (a easier going version of Awana Games.)

Although they work toward red (Bible drills), green (activities) and blue (attendance)
jewels during the year, Sparkies end the year with a final award ceremony. After three years in the program, graduating Sparks who have completed all 3 books receive the Sparky Award.

As always, if you have ANY questions about the handbook progression, please consult a director, secretary or leader.  We are here to help!
